The Chief Executive Officer of Globe Productions, Mr. Latif Abubakar, has formally briefed the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts on preparations for the upcoming African Festival Productions, a three-day cultural and theatrical event scheduled to take place from 28th to 30th of December at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Mr. Abubakar explained that the festival, which has received support from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), aims to position African theatre and storytelling on a global stage while attracting institutional partnerships, including that from the African Export–Import Bank. He noted that the festival will be headlined daily by major theatrical productions, beginning on 28th December, 2025. The production, sponsored by the Embassy of Spain and the Spanish Government, has been reimagined with African themes and aesthetics, with plans to tour internationally from 2029.

Responding, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Gomashie welcomed the initiative, describing theatre as a powerful platform for education, self-expression and personal development, particularly for young people. She commended Globe Productions for creating opportunities that nurture confidence, communication skills and creativity, while also preserving cultural heritage through live performance.

The Minister further highlighted ongoing efforts to integrate culture into tourism, including religious and heritage tourism initiatives such as the development of the Nkyinkyim
Museum and collaborations with traditional practitioners. She underscored the importance of partnerships with key institutions, assuring the organisers of the Ministry’s support through engagement with the Commission on Culture, Creative Arts Agency, Film Authority and other relevant bodies.

She encouraged the organisers to sustain their vision and innovation, noting that initiatives such as the African Festival of Productions contribute significantly to Ghana’s cultural branding and youth empowerment. The engagement ended with a shared commitment to making Accra a landmark city for creative excellence and positioning African theatre as a vibrant force on the global cultural stage.

Joining the sector minister to welcome Latif Abubakar and his team at the meeting were Mr. Joseph K. Amoah, Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Dr. Richardson Commey Fio, special assistant to the Minister, and Mr. Divine Owusu-Ansah, Director for Culture and Creative Arts.
