Ghana brought colour, rhythm and culture to the closing day of the ITB Berlin as it celebrated Ghana Day at the fair while also marking the country’s 69th Independence Anniversary.
The Ghana pavilion attracted significant attention from international visitors as traditional Ghanaian drumming and dancing filled the exhibition area, creating a lively atmosphere that drew crowds to experience Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
Addressing guests at the event, Ghana’s Ambassador to Germany, Prof. Ohene Adjei, noted that the celebration coincided with Ghana’s independence anniversary on March 6 and highlighted the significance of the occasion.
“Tomorrow is the sixth of March when we had our independence, and we take this opportunity to celebrate it at the same time with this great event,” he said. “Let’s all be happy and remember what it stands for.”
The Ambassador recalled the words of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, who declared that Ghana’s independence would be meaningless unless it was linked to the total liberation of the African continent.
According to him, the vision of African progress is gradually being realised as many African countries continue to advance in innovation and development.
Prof. Adjei encouraged visitors to explore Ghana and take advantage of the country’s tourism and investment opportunities. He highlighted some of Ghana’s major attractions including the Kakum National Park, the famous Paga Crocodile Pond in northern Ghana, and the Akosombo Dam which created the vast Lake Volta.
He assured visitors that officials from the Ghana Embassy in Berlin were available to provide information and guidance to anyone interested in travelling to or investing in Ghana.
Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Operations at the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Anane Nsiah, invited guests to enjoy the Ghana Day celebration and use the opportunity to learn more about the country.
He urged visitors and investors to explore the many tourism opportunities Ghana offers and consider building partnerships and investments in the sector.
Guests at the Ghana stand were treated to a variety of Ghanaian delicacies including hot Ghanaian chocolate drink, locally produced chocolate, snacks and the popular West African dish Jollof rice, giving them a taste of Ghana’s culinary culture.
The annual ITB Berlin is one of the world’s largest international tourism trade fairs, bringing together tourism boards, industry stakeholders and exhibitors from across the globe to promote destinations, forge partnerships and explore new opportunities in the global tourism market.
