In a vibrant display of tradition, culture and community spirit, the Chief Executive Officer of Dodi Travel and Tours, Mr Ahmed Naaman, has been enstooled as the Abokomahen of Biriwa in the Central Region. He will henceforth be known in his traditional role as Nana Kwaa Naaman I.
The enstoolment ceremony, held on Tuesday, July 1, was marked by a colourful procession through the fishing community of Biriwa, drawing local residents and dignitaries from across Ghana’s tourism circles. The symbolic rites culminated at the historic Old Market Square, where the Chief of Biriwa, Nana Kwaa Abonko V, his elders and townspeople formally welcomed Nana Kwaa Naaman I into his new role.
The occasion was not only a celebration of traditional leadership but also served as the official launch of Biriwa’s Okyir Festival, a highly anticipated annual cultural event scheduled for October. Organisers promise this year’s festival will be grander than ever, showcasing the rich heritage of the Biriwa people and putting the town firmly on Ghana’s cultural tourism map.
As Abokomahen—a key sub-chief responsible for community affairs—Nana Kwaa Naaman I is expected to collaborate with the Development Chief and other traditional leaders to champion development initiatives in Biriwa. With his vast experience in tourism and hospitality, Nana Naaman’s leadership is anticipated to attract investment and tourism interest to the area, aligning traditional authority with modern progress.
One of his immediate tasks is to rally national and diaspora interest in the upcoming Okyir Festival, which promises cultural performances, community engagement and economic opportunities for locals.
The enstoolment drew strong representation from Ghana’s tourism sector. Key stakeholders including the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF), the Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), the Tourism Society of Ghana (TOSOGHA) and Miss Tourism Ghana graced the event. Ghana Tourism Authority’s Deputy Director for Corporate Affairs was also at hand to lend his support.
