The Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) has officially ushered in a new era of leadership following a vibrant inauguration ceremony held today at the Accra Tourist Information Centre. The newly elected executives, led by President Yvonne Donkor, will be at the helm of the Union for the next two years, after securing their positions in last week’s election on Wednesday, May 7.
The atmosphere at the event was one of renewed energy and hope as members of Ghana’s tourism industry gathered to welcome the new team and reflect on the Union’s progress. With a reputation for driving domestic tourism and uniting tour operators across the country, TOUGHA stands at the heart of Ghana’s growing travel sector.

In her first official address as President, Ms. Donkor spoke passionately about the journey that brought the Union to this point and laid out a bold vision for its future.
“Standing before you today, filled with both humility and immense excitement, as your newly elected President is truly an honour.”
She acknowledged the dedication and hard work of the members who have kept the Union alive and thriving through challenging times.
“Let’s be honest, the journey to this moment hasn’t always been smooth sailing,” she said. “We’ve weathered storms, faced challenges that tested our resilience and navigated a landscape that constantly evolves. But through it all, the spirit of TOUGHA has endured, a testament to the unwavering commitment of each and every one of you.”
Donkor also paid tribute to the Union’s past leaders, giving special thanks to her immediate predecessor, Mrs. Alisa Osei-Asamoah.
“In particular, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our immediate past President, Mrs. Alisa Osei-Asamoah, and her exceptional team,” she said. “Their tireless efforts, their unwavering advocacy, and their progressive initiatives have not only elevated TOUGHA but have also made us the envy of many within the broader tourism sector. Madam President, your leadership has been exemplary, and we are deeply grateful for your service.”
Looking ahead, Ms. Donkor called for greater unity and collective action to move the Union forward.
“This morning, we don’t just mark a new chapter; we reaffirm our collective strength,” she said. “We must stand together, supporting one another, sharing knowledge and collaborating on innovative solutions that will propel our industry to new heights.”
She pledged to lead with intention and responsiveness, ensuring that members’ voices are not just heard but acted upon.
“My commitment to you is to provide dynamic and progressive leadership,” she assured the gathering. “We will be proactive, not reactive. We will embrace innovation, explore new technologies and champion sustainable tourism practices that benefit our Union, businesses and our nation.”
But Ms. Donkor made it clear that real progress would depend on the active participation of every member.
“This is not just my vision; it is our shared aspiration,” she said. “It requires the active participation, the creative energy and the unwavering dedication of every single member. Let us engage in open dialogue, let us challenge ourselves to think differently, and let us work hand-in-hand to unlock the immense potential that lies within Ghana’s tourism sector.”
